Bible Reading Plans
The start of a new year is a good time for followers of Jesus to examine their practice of spiritual disciplines. One such spiritual discipline is Bible Reading which is especially beneficial as it is a primary means by which the Holy Spirit works in the heart and mind of a believer. If you’re in need of a plan we recommend one of the plans available here.
Robert Murray M’Cheyne/Carson Bible Reading Plan (new for 2024-2025)
This new plan is the Robert Murray M’Cheyne/Carson Bible Reading Plan. It’s been modified by D.A. Carson. This is a two-year plan that takes you through the New Testament and Psalms once each year and through the rest of the Old Testament once over two years. This plan may be a more attainable approach to reading through the Bible. (Download PDF)
Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan
The Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan takes you through the whole Bible in one year and offers four daily readings in both the Old and New Testaments. This approach helps keep your Bible reading fresh. There are also only 25 days of planned reading each month giving you a few days to catch up if you get behind. (Download PDF)
Five Day Reading Plan
The Five Day Reading Plan is unique in that it allows you to read the entire Bible (or just the New Testament) in one year while only reading five times a week. Five readings a week gives room to catch up or take a day off to focus on other Bible reading or spiritual disciplines and makes daily Bible reading practical and doable. (Download PDF)
Robert Murray M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
Robert Murray M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan provides a daily reading from the Old Testament, New Testament, and Psalms or Gospels. This plan takes the reader through the New Testament and Psalms twice and the Old Testament once and can be used as a one-year or two-year plan. (Download PDF)
Bible Reading Apps
The ReadingPlan App (iOS) is our favorite for keeping our Bible reading on track. The reading plans above and many more can be accessed from within this app which helps you track your progress as you read through the Bible. The daily readings can also be linked to a Bible on your iOS device. Start a plan at any time during the year, progressing at your own pace or on the schedule set out by each plan.
Install the ESV Bible App from Crossway (iOS / Android) and take the English Standard Version of the Bible with you wherever you go. Along with the app comes access to several Bible reading plans. One of our favorite settings is reader mode which when activated turns off verse numbers for undistracted reading.
The YouVersion Bible App is available for both iOS and Android and offers several free, downloadable Bible versions as well as Bible reading plans and much more.
